Life Update: The Adventures and Challenges of Travel Healthcare

The 4th of July Weekend: A Bittersweet Journey

Over the 4th of July weekend, we decided to take our RV (aka our home on wheels during our travel assignments) to an RV resort at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. About 2 miles down the road, we blew a tire. We knew instantly that a tire blew due to our TPMS and the obvious loud "pop"! Thankfully, our truck handled it okay, and we were able to pull over to the side of the road quickly. Nobody in our family was injured. Thank the Lord!

But our RV didn't make it out unscathed! We now have a large hole in the bottom of our RV bathroom floor, plus the rogue tire wrapped around our bathroom plumbing and ripped it all out. This unexpected mishap threw a wrench into our plans and required some quick thinking and immediate action. We had to assess the damage, figure out how to manage without a fully functioning bathroom, and keep our spirits high despite the setback.

We were able to stop water flow to the bathroom, which allows us to use running water at our kitchen sink. No use of our bathroom sink or shower. Toilet is still usable, but you have to manually add water. This makes everyday tasks a bit more challenging, but we're managing. The incident reminded us of the importance of being prepared for anything and staying adaptable, qualities that are crucial for anyone in the travel healthcare field and/or rving.

Making the Most of the 4th of July Trip

We ended up still going on our 4th of July trip after some nice fellas helped us change the tire. Highly recommend Red Oak RV Resort! Multiple pools, splash pad for kids, live music, fireworks show, boat docks on the lake, and 3 restaurants are all on site. Despite the initial hiccup, we had a fantastic time at the resort. The facilities were top-notch, and there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The kids loved the splash pad and pools, while the adults appreciated the live music and the convenience of having restaurants on-site. The fireworks show was spectacular and a great way to end the day. This trip reinforced the idea that even when things go wrong, there are always opportunities to create positive memories and enjoy the moment.

Current Living Situation: Rolling with the Punches

Currently, we are still living in the RV. I (Ryan) have about 1 month left on my current assignment. Then, at the end of August, we'll take the RV to our repair shop to get fixed. It's going to be a few months, most likely, so that means we'll be renting a house for our next assignment! The prospect of moving into a rental home is both exciting and a bit daunting. It's a change of pace from our usual mobile lifestyle, but it will also be a nice break from the challenges of RV living.

Living in an RV during travel assignments has its ups and downs. On one hand, it offers a unique sense of freedom and the ability to explore new places. On the other hand, it comes with its own set of challenges, from maintenance issues to space constraints. This experience has taught us to be flexible and to find joy in the journey, no matter the obstacles we face.

The Joys and Challenges of RV Living

Oh, the joys of RV living! πŸ—ΊπŸ“πŸš Despite the recent mishap, we still love the RV lifestyle. It allows us to see new places, meet new people, and experience different cultures. We’ve become a close-knit family unit, navigating the ups and downs of life on the road together. It's a lifestyle that requires a lot of adaptability and problem-solving skills, but it's also incredibly rewarding.

For those in the travel healthcare profession considering RV living, know that it's a journey full of surprises. There will be moments of frustration and unexpected challenges, but there will also be moments of incredible joy and freedom. It's about finding a balance and embracing the adventure, knowing that every experience, good or bad, adds to the richness of your journey.
